Fête '08

Bramley Fete spreading its wings

The Bramley Fete (May 25, Gosden Common) is planning new attractions this year to help make the event go with even more of a swing as we launch our second half century.

We want to kick start the proceedings with a full-scale procession, headed by the traditional children’s fancy dress float and made up of open-top cars, tractors, buses, bicycles or whatever form of transport is available. We would like each vehicle to show clearly which organisation (school, society, church, local business) it represents, to be colourfully decorated with balloons or streamers and to make as much music as possible. Participants can also throw sweets to passers-by or watchers along the route.

This should be a good way to promote local organisations and to make a spectacular start to the fete. The procession will start at 1230 from the old Bramley and Wonersh railway station and end at Gosden Common.

Another innovation, to mark this Olympic year, will be a Wheelbarrow Racing Competition. Suitably decorated and named wheelbarrows, each containing one child and pushed by an adult, will race for a fabulous prize and, more importantly, for the honour of being Bramley’s Wheelbarrow Racing Champion of 2008.  If you think you, your child and your wheelbarrow are potential medallists, enter now!

Anyone interested in taking part in the procession and/or the wheelbarrow racing, please contact Jill Bryant (01483 892911)

This year’s fete will of course also feature the inevitable and unmissable tug-of-war contest, we will have another sparkling display from the Guildford Seiki-Juku Karate Club and music will be provided through the afternoon by local estate agent Matthew Burns and his group.

Fingers crossed that the weather is kinder than last year!!
